Around here, credibility seems to have about as much value as a Good Housekeeping award for a house on Forestside Drive. >> From what I've seen, the general rule is if you write poetry, you're a poet. No publishing contract required, no literary credentials necessary, and apparently talent is entirely optional. >> You can write one poem on the back of a takeaway menu, post it online, and you're officially a poet. Write another one that's absolutely dreadful? Still a poet. Write twenty more that make people wonder if the English language has suffered some sort of head injury? Poet. >> >> By the way, I believe your boy Dockery was in desperate need of a life preserver and came paddling over to summon you and Mr Pendragon after apparently discovering the most grievous offence ever committed upon this hallowed group: a misplaced comma. >> He then spent several dozen pages celebrating my alleged grammatical crime according to the sacred commandments of American English, apparently unaware that I was not educated in America. One could argue that neither was he. >> Things got strange when he demanded to know where I was from so he could determine which grammatical rules supposedly applied to me. Snipping, then replying to a blank post, proves you can’t back up your asinine claims with facts; all you do is invent straw men to fake a victory. Where in my post did I claim to be a poet? Even if I had, posting examples here doesn’t make someone a poet; anyone can claim the title. You, however, can’t credibly call yourself a musician when you can’t play a single instrument. Either you’re deluded or you’re lying. I’ll take the latter. On second thought, I believe it is both.
