Goldman Sachs, PBS & Disney all rolled back DEI programs this week

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Companies across the nation are scaling back 
diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, with major 
corporations like Goldman Sachs, Disney, and PBS joining the trend this 
week.

Goldman Sachs has announced it will no longer require companies it takes 
public to have diverse board members. A spokesperson said the decision was 
influenced by legal developments related to board diversity requirements, 
effectively reversing a policy set in 2020.

Disney is also revising its DEI approach, shifting the diversity and 
inclusion performance metric for employees to focus more on business 
outcomes.

PBS has shut down its DEI office to comply with a Trump executive order 
ending DEI in federally supported organizations. The company's director 
and senior vice president of DEI are leaving. Despite these changes, the 
network's CEO said PBS will remain "a welcoming place for everyone."

Since returning to the White House, former President Donald Trump has 
prioritized rolling back DEI in the federal government. When answering 
questions in the Oval Office last month Trump said, "We want the most 
competent people. We don’t care what race they are."

Private companies continue to follow suit, with Google, Amazon, 
McDonald's, Coors, and Pepsi among those reducing or eliminating DEI 
programs.

In Missouri, the attorney general is suing Starbucks over its DEI 
practices, alleging violations of race discrimination. Starbucks 
responded, "We disagree with the attorney general and these allegations 
are inaccurate. We are deeply committed to creating opportunity for every 
single one of our partners (employees). Our programs and benefits are open 
to everyone and lawful."

The FCC has opened a probe into NBC's parent company Comcast over its 
promotion of DEI programs, stating they are ensuring compliance with civil 
rights protections. Comcast confirmed they will fully cooperate with the 
inquiry.
