Let me intervene here and explain this special "TorMail" case: Mail client: Message creation | v Local SMTP port OmniMix: Header filtering and sorting | v Local SOCKS port Tor gateway | v Internet -------------------- Sender's Tor entry node v v Up to 8 further hops v Tor rendezvous point v v Up to 8 further hops v Recipient's Tor entry node | Internet -------------------- v Tor gateway's Hidden Service | v Local SMTP port Hamster: Mail storage ^ Local POP3 port (asynchronous) | Mail client A packet filter only allows the aforementioned local connections. Except for both Tor instances all external connections are blocked.
