Well what better use case than to create networks not dependent of corporate
ISP's ? any privacy friendly service over the internet still needs and ISP,
ISP's can block at any time your service for political dissagreements or not
paying etc I think among the many use cases this 2 a a big deal to put energy
into, WIFI is an option but is more expensive, and is not long rage like LoRa. 

Reticulum in particular is way more useful than meshtastic since you can share 
voice/pictures and have small plain sites. Meshtastis is only focuses on 
msgs/chat
