Tensions between Israel and Iran rose further on Wednesday when Tehran
vowed revenge for an Israeli air force attack on its consulate in the
Syrian capital of Damascus, while Tel Aviv expressed readiness to
retaliate if attacked.

The exchange of threats between Israel and Iran has heightened tensions,
with Foreign Minister Israel Katz issuing a stern warning in a social
media post.

In a post on X, written in Hebrew and Persian and directly tagging Iranian
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz
threatened to retaliate if Iran launched an attack on Israel from its soil.

"If Iran attacks from its territory, Israel will respond and attack Iran,"
he threatened.

Katz's statement comes shortly after Khamenei's remarks in Tehran, where
he addressed a crowd on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, saying that "the evil
regime made a mistake and must be punished, and it shall be."

Khamenei's comments referred to an alleged Israeli attack on Iran's
consulate in Damascus on April 1.

At least 13 people were killed in the attack, including seven Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers, which Iranian authorities
blamed on Israel.

Among those killed were General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander
of the IRGC's Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon, and his deputy General Hadi
Haj Rahemi.

### - well there between the lines is israel giving iran a way out of this
then, whew: israel clearly stating that as long as iran doesn't retaliate
from within its OWN territory, then israel wont have to go ape directly on
iran in return?

cue a retaliation via proxy then huh, but which proxy? lebanon, iraq,
syria & yemen having all already done things to israel for one reason or
another (mostly over gaza so far) israel having no qualms over taking-out
'any' of those, particularly lebanon who's been fighting right on their
border, hmm... israel already having warned lebanon about going too far,
threatening to hit them just as hard as gaza if they ever cross that
line...

either way, it's likely to drag-on for a bit longer then huh, but goes to
show just how 'close' to an all-out conflict each new incident creates,
everyone shaking their fists at each other ain't good either coz whenever
that goes on for too long it usually always ends in a fight anyway.
