Yes. Definitely Joe, not Eugene. I voted for Eugene McCarthy
in '68 as a write-in (in Wisconsin), after he had withdrawn from
the race.

Joe, on the other hand, had the nick-name of "Tail-gunner Joe",
referring to the very dangerous position of the rear gunner in
air force bomber. As the wiki article points out, this was actually
kind of a slam...
---
Following the end of World War II, he attained the rank of major.
He volunteered to fly twelve combat missions as a gunner-observer.
These missions were generally safe, and after one where he was
allowed to shoot as much ammunition as he wanted to, mainly at
coconut trees, he acquired the nickname "Tail-Gunner Joe". Some
of his claims of heroism were later shown to be exaggerated or
falsified, leading many of his critics to use "Tail-Gunner Joe" as
a term of mockery.
---

And Tail-gunner Joe plays a prominent role in one of Dragned's
best Drag Queen stories, one of my favorites to read out loud,
called "The Shit Midas", where Tailgunner plays an important
role as the mentor to the Great Cohn-head (Roy Cohn), who
confers on Midas (Donald Trump) the power to turn people
into shit.

It's the 3rd most recent story in Dragned's oeuvre, which you
can find here (3rd back from the upper left)...
