### - i hear you for sure...

interestingly enough it was the opposite for moi; even as a kid of 17 or
18 that hadn't acquired much of an education yet, weed always gave me
seemingly profound insights into ideas and things, the deeper meaning of
things i read kinda jumped out at me, music seemed incredible, even my
crappy songs (and ideas for songs) seemed somehow altered/enhanced under
its influence, this later also applying to my studies, with seemingly
profound insights turning into profound experiences; i thus found myself
going off down a completely different road to that of my peers, a road
less traveled by... they were all into getting good jobs and money and
stuff, i was into literature, history & philosophy, meditation too, and
comparative religious studies (i looked at all the religions, including
the occult & mysticism etc; if there was anything to know i wanted to know
it!)

school being an absolute bore and not wanting to end-up as just another
stuffed shirt, i avoided the academic/formal route and went with the
flow... the buddhists seemed to have gotten it right the most; it really
was all about self-development and growth, of fitting 'oneself' to travel
the road of life, all the best writers & artists attested it was so, the
'Poet' being (or representing then) the best of men, the most advanced
among them, the western equivalent of an enlightened man in buddhist
terms...

in that sense i never did/took things for kicks except perhaps initially
in order to try it, it was always more for the temporary slant on life
they afforded at the time, for the sometimes profound change in perception
and perspective, lsd being the kicker in that i'd never ever realised
things could be THAT different?? fuck me! often with disturbing insights
galore! lsd & mushrooms being a little too much for me personally i didn't
do that much of them, you had to treat that shit with respect lol or risk
madness, ditto speed and other pills and stuff (have tried/enjoyed
basically everything otherwise) it being only weed am at all interested in
anymore these days: a nice smoke, a pleasant feeling of contentment, an
open mind and a wealth of full and lasting experiences to look back on,
at, and hopefully forward to...

it's been an interesting life so far even if the conditions are bit
primitive/shit, the suffering they allow/encourage/disregard on this
planet is utterly disgraceful, and embarrassing!

as such am ashamed of 'em, am ashamed of the human race while at the same
time admiring their ability to very occasionally beat the stupendous odds
arrayed against them, and become survivors ;)
