Doomsday Clock moved closest ever to destruction

The Doomsday Clock symbolising how near humanity is to destruction has  
been moved one second forward to 89 seconds to midnight - the closest it  
has ever been.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) - which sets the clock  
annually - said nuclear threats, potential misuses of advances in biology  
and artificial intelligence, as well as climate change, were the key  
factors.

Daniel Holz, chair of the Bulletin's Science and Security Board, said the  
latest move was "a warning to all world leaders".

The clock was originally placed at seven minutes to midnight in 1947. Last  
year, it was left unchanged at 90 seconds.

In Tuesday's statement, the BAS - a Chicago-based non-profit organisation  
- said: "In setting the clock one second closer to midnight, we send a  
stark signal., external

"Because the world is already perilously close to the precipice, a move of  
even a single second should be taken as an indication of extreme danger  
and an unmistakable warning that every second of delay in reversing course  
increases the probability of global disaster."

It warned that the continuing war in Ukraine - now nearing a three-year  
mark since Russia's full-scale invasion - "could become nuclear at any  
moment because of a rash decision or through accident or miscalculation".

"Conflict in the Middle East threatens to spiral out of control into a  
wider war without warning," the statement said.

The panel of scientists also said that "the long-term prognosis for the  
world's attempts to deal with climate change remains poor, as most  
governments fail to enact the financing and policy initiatives necessary  
to halt global warming."

In the biological arena, the BAS continued, "emerging and re-emerging  
diseases continue to threaten the economy, society and security of the  
world".

It also warned that "an array of other disruptive technologies advanced  
last year in ways that make the world more dangerous".

"Systems that incorporate artificial intelligence in military targeting  
have been used in Ukraine and the Middle East, and several countries are  
moving to integrate artificial intelligence into their militaries."

The organisation stressed that all these dangers "are greatly exacerbated  
by a potent threat multiplier: the spread of misinformation,  
disinformation and conspiracy theories that degrade the communication  
ecosystem and increasingly blur the line between truth and falsehood".

The US, China and Russia, the BAS said, "have the collective power to  
destroy civilisation", adding that the three nations "have the prime  
responsibility to pull the world back from the brink".

### - this is bs too... in 3 years they've moved it forward now by only  
ONE second despite everything that's happened in that time?? the worsening  
situation in ukraine, the middle east, hamas and iran attacking israel,  
70,000 dead Palestinians, syria falling, trump being reelected and his 2  
attempted assassinations the list goes on and on, and they've moved the  
clock only ONE second forward??? riiiight...

nah, they're obviously cooking the books/data again just like they do  
everything else huh, AFRAID to reveal the truth lest there's some kind of  
public backlash, only ONE second a year allowing for another 89 years  
innit, meaning: they can drag it out for as long as they want and it  
doesn't 'mean' a goddamn thing, duh!

10 seconds per year being a far more realistic movement based on previous  
criterion, thus making it around perhaps only 60-seconds to midnight, not  
89! - something! not hardly anything at all!

plus, at the rate europe is currently massively rearming and russia  
looking-on at the build-up and shaking its head, europe all the while  
chanting: russia mustn't win! russia mustn't win! and looting russian  
assets and their own economies to fund it: their calls for 'peace' clearly  
being the complete opposite of their actions!

europe and russia was actually prospering before the ukraine thing  
happened, that is until some bright speak decided to back a far-right,  
russia-hating coup in ukraine, who upon taking power immediately outlawed  
the russian spoken and written language in ukraine affecting some 4  
million russian speaking ukrainians living in the south along the russian  
border, and then started shelling them as well until there was no power,  
food or water for 4 million people! this was ethnic cleansing at it's most  
obvious!

so where was the UN then?? why wasn't the whole world sending aid to those  
4 million ukrainian people???

why wasn't there sanctions made against ukraine to stop them?? nato  
intervened to stop similar ethnic cleansing in bosnia, why not here??  
russia being the ONLY one to send ANY aid! and even that was buried under  
a blanket of accusation of it all being only weapons, several independent  
examinations made tending to prove the opposite...

nope, the world seemed only too happy to let such a horrible situation  
develop, and then ultimately backed-up the creators and instigators of it  
by sending them billions of dollars worth of advanced weapons to keep it  
all going when russia aided them and pushed back!

but it's all backfired and has hurt us much more than it's ever hurting  
russia, war with russia in 5 years currently being europe's prediction,  
although it's hard to see russia waiting that long if/when it becomes  
inevitable...

that the TIME to turn-back is NOW folks... find a way to 'work' with  
russia instead of trying to get rid of them, make genuine peace with them  
based on common fucking sense and realistic business practices, and let's  
ALL go back to doing fairly well and getting along!

but then THAT would be betting on some SANITY occurring huh

and i haven't see any yet...
