How many such Monarchs have there been?

The NY Times crossword earlier this month recognized the reign of Otis 
Redding, but a WP search also came up with Sam Cooke (died in 1964 at 
age 33).  Sam in fact is the top search result (according to my 
browsing).

Who have we missed?
