And someone pointed me to this excellent feature of Xcache, which I think we should also implement http://xcache.lighttpd.net/wiki/ReadonlyProtection Imagine an apc_x* functions which return pointers from the RO memory *after* they copy into the RW and well, the pool destroy makes a second rewrite un-necessary. As well as the copy-on-demand that you folks had. And the swizzle/ unswizzle stuff to compile onto disk dynamically (the 5.3 early late binding helps).
