Salam to All, I'm also happy to hear this and thanks for the good summary brother Salah. There're some points I'd like to share: 1. If there is a possibility to use an encoding other than ISO charset that would be great, as Hannes commented.2. How many people are there in the other translation groups. Just to give us a hint on the number needed. I found out the following : Hebrew translation : 28 users with cvs account. German translation : 62 users with cvs accounts. What do we need?In my humble opinion and at the moment, I think : As a team, we need some system for the coordination, controlling, and management. This system should tells everyone what tasks he should do, notify him if he's late in doing tasks assigned to him, and reassign tasks to other members. The most important thing is to lay down the basic steps of needed management. As members, you need to have a text editor, cvs account (this is negotiable), some dictionary for the disputed terms. Your thoughts are very important here, please tell us what you think. What is CVS?Here is some explanation according to what I've understood up to now. CVS : stands for Current Versions System. It is a system for maintaining files of an application throughout the development time. It works originally on Unix-like platforms, but there're applications developed to work on Windows, like CVSNT. It is a client-server system where members of the development team contact the server part of the system to get files and work on them. In order to understand this system, it's inevitable to understand the terminology used in this system. CHECKOUT : to download a file from the server. Like checking out a book out of the library. REPOSITORY : the store where all files resides on the server. UPDATE : the operation you need to execute on a file which has been downloaded to know if there are any new additions or deletions from this file by other members of the team. COMMIT : the operation you execute on a file to send it with the changes you have made to it to the system to store it in the REPOSITORY. All files are versioned using the system, and you can view the same file at any version. Every change made to files can be roll backed to get the same file at any earlier state. To you brother Salah, if you give me an account in php4arab.info just to have a look at the system from all of the members. And if you think it's appropriate for us to use, then we proceed to the next step. > From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2007 18:13:57 +0000> Subject: RE: [DOC-AR] RE: Status of translation?> > > Salam Alykum,> > That's really a wonderful news. I've delegated some of my ideas to some guys in order to move the progress on but there's no good progress yet. Hopefully my circumstances become better soon which will help me to dedicate some of my time to get back in track and restart all of my pending projects. For sure there is a blame on all of us, and if there was a failure, then it would be a failure for all of us, as Jadi said. But anyway, it was an unsuccessful or incomplete try, and there could be some lessons we have learnt from it. I don't have a rich experience, but I'll share some lessons I've learnt from some other personal experiences, - Don't feel passive about others, especially those on a team.- Give way for ideas to mature.- Don't start doing things immediately without first planning what you're going to do.- When you plan well, you implement well. I think we should be aware that this a project, and it needs to be dealt with as a project, more precisely, as an open-source project. There are well designed ways of managing projects, and we need to have some of those skills. I hope we come to a point of agreement on the importance of discussing ideas before putting them to the field of implementation. Everyone of us is capable of doing marvelous results if the job is about translating a one-page manual, but the idea is how to distribute the load, how to make a load-balancing and achieve th e goal in a shorter time, how to make it possible that the translation project continues without being affected or stopped by the loss of anyone of us, how to make it possible that we get the ideas of each one of us and those who cannot do the job but can contribute successful ideas. Is it true that 300 million arab people can't work together to do something good for themselves? I wrote all of the above as a way of thinking in a loud voice. To all of the people reading this, PLEASE SAY SOMETHING about ... about ... about anything. What are the things that should be considered in this project. Be frank as far as you really want this project to succeed. I know you're busy, I am busy as much as you. WHO WANTS THIS PROJECT TO START????>>> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]; [email protected]> Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2007 22:01:49 +0300> Subject: RE: [DOC-AR] Status of translation?>> Dear Abu Mosaab,>> In my opinion the project didn't die or fail; it's been choking and still is because of many factors.> I wasn't blaming any one and I'm not steping aside of the responsibility. Regardless of me being busy; I will still do my best for this project and won't give up But I beleive that the only way to overcome the problems we face in this project is by unifing efforts; One hand can't clap and so one person (or in our case even two and three) can't bring the project to success.>> I was inviting the guys to start working on any thing available to keep the project and my plan is to have more than 15 person sincerely involved in the process. I welcome any suggesstions and efforts but to be honest a lot of the efforts made in the early stages of this project gone with the wind because they were lone and didn't find enough volunteers to keep the flame burining.>> You have suggested to build a good automated system; that's a great suggesstion so let's take the opportunity to invite everyone on the list to join us with this.>> I also invite everyone to read http://doc.php.net/php/dochowto/ before thinking to work with us, and put in mind that you don't need a CVS account and you don't need to perform the requested operations in the document, all you need is to understand the mechanism of the phpdoc and if there're any questions I'll do my best to clarify.>> If any one want to take a look or get a copy of the PHP Manual source files without CVS access, please go to http://cvs.php.net/viewvc.cgi/phpdoc/>> Regards,> Salah Faya>>>>>> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2007 20:11:47 +0300> Subject: RE: [DOC-AR] Status of translation?>> I'm going to answer you brother Salah. You have been the head of the translation project ever since as far as I know. You made the initiative and you deserved to be that guy. I think you did an very good job. But the project has failed. I think you must be having a very good answers related to WHY this big project has failed.>> What I think is that although the first project has failed, it must have taught us good lessons concerning how not to fall down again. Why should anyone else take the responsibility of the project? I'm not against this, I'm just raising the question trying to see why. Are the reasons problem-centered or people-centered ones. Are you busy in your own job?. Of course you are and you should be. I'm busy and other members must be busy, too. That shouldn't be a reason nor should it make us fail.>> The solution to reviving the project in my humble opinion is to MAKE A GOOD AUTOMATED SYSTEM for the project. There are many challenges to this project like the difficulty of translating or arabizing some terminology, style and wording issues, what to translate in the manual and what not to. There are also some technical matters like how to use the automated system of PHP.NET. But whatever challenges there are, it does not mean we cannot build a system that eventually get the manual translated in Arabic. The biggest challenge is how to build this GOOD AUTOMATED SYSTEM. As soon as such a system has been completed it should continue to be an effective managing tool for the continuous translation process.>> AbuMosaab>>>>>>> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2007 00:41:02 +0300> Subject: RE: [DOC-AR] Status of translation?>> Would any one take the responsibility to try reviving the translation?> Any effort even if small will really matter and may encourage the other guys to do the same and get involved.>>>> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2007 22:45:18 +0300> Subject: FW: [DOC-AR] Status of translation?>>>>> Yes, it's dead. but the team is sleeping :)>>> Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2007 16:13:18 +0300> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Subject: Re: [DOC-AR] Status of translation?>> No, we are not working, this list is dead and the team is also dead.>> On 17/10/2007, Saleh Al-Saffar wrote:>>>> Hello guys>>>> What's the status of the translation? are you guys still working on the translation?>>>> Sincerely,>> Saleh>> _________________________________________________________________>> أ‡أچأ•أ، أڑأ،أ¬ Windows Live Messenger أ‡أ،أŒأڈأأڈ!>> http://get.live.com/messenger/overview> _________________________________________________________________> Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
