Re: PHP on .NET DLR

 Yes, both Python and Ruby has Jruby and jython, and a support for Java run time is great idea. 
 
  Many issues though:

 a) The phalanger project was funded by MS themselves. If Sun funds a project to port PHP to JVM, I would support it wholeheartedly but that's not happening. In fact, what I am asking here is to get Zend get MS take up the project they once dropped.

 b) Support for .NET exists in a finished state, and all it needs is the official stamp. I have repeatedly said that my request is sane only because I am using phalanger productively to write simple apps, and it works.

 c) .NET nicely complements PHP since it helps PHP on a platform where it has been traditionally weak. JVM support would heavily overlap with the core PHP strengths, and would to a high extend be redundant. With Zend bytecode compilation, I am not sure there is any significant advantage to PHP on JVM.

 d) DLR is specifically designed for dynamic languages. Sun has scala--the new dynamic language--but I am not sure if they have a specific platform that's designed to make it easy for dynamic languages. As in, PHP on .NET would be an official language with the full capabilities along with IronPython, Ruby, and Dynamic VB.


 So if you can get Sun interested in porting PHP to their platform, then of course, I would pitch in with my vote.
