Hi, and about the list

As a part introduction to new people, and part explanatory as to the past, i
would like to present a mini history of the list :)

About 2 months ago, Damien Seguy ([email protected]) and I lobbyed the PHP group
to set up an evangelism mailing list, to coordinate the php evangelism
effort.

The remit is simple: to Advocate PHP to the Enterprise, proving it's just as
solid as Java, COM, or similar styled languages; and to Evangelise PHP to
the programming masses, helping developers move from Perl, ASP (etc) to PHP.

To do this we feel the best way is to create one, maybe two websites,
designed and targetted more as a portal for PHP, as opposed to a plain
reference site, so people can find information such as new product releases
using PHP, case studies and testimonials from the enterprise where PHP has
been used successfully, eg, alltheweb.com, comprehensive metrics on PHP
usage, as well as tools for developers; and finally relevant industry news
about the industry.

All in all, a place where product managers would be able to go, source
information, and sell PHP as a free, open source platform to the
accountants.

A final note about the list. Given that promotion, evangelism and advocacy
often result in conflicts, I am moderating the list to make sure we do not
come to a position where we get a: unwanted advertising, and b: pointless
squabbles.

So far this has worked, however I apologise if there is a lag time before
you see your post, i'm probably sleeping. :)
