This patch fixes an issue we've seen intermittently for a long time. If you cannot reproduce the error then at least look at the code and apply it as it fixes erroneous code. I could search our support tracker to give you a long list of domains that have been bitten by this bug on our servers that have not seen this issue since the patch was integrated into our build system
