libXPM links against X11, gd has it as part of the libXpm CFLAGS. I'm
not sure why gd-noxpm requires libX11, as it is only used by Xpm. I
think it is a bug in the libgd-noxpm package. Or do I miss something?

By the way, have you asked for a CVS account? Then you can send me a
tar.gz of the libgd-debian CVS tree, it can be imported in
gd/gd-debian.
