Bastien Koert, All the other errors I reported had the public and 
private keys in the same folder. The current version of the test program 
tries to read "w.pub" and "w.key". The problem is that the internal 
format of these files is not specified. Neither the PHP documentation 
nor the PHP error output is helpful.

Any experts here?
