Small php-installation for Linux

Hello!

I have installed php as a module on a computer running Linux RedHat 6.1.
After the installation I checked the size of the 'httpd', and compared it to an installation of Apache without php-support.
The size differed 6 times!
The size of 'httpd' with php-support was 1,82 Mb, and in my project we need to save as much space as possible.

Does anyone know if this size is normal or extremely large, and if there is a smaller version of php available?
I got the source for php3.0 from the Red Hat sight and compiled it etc.

If not, maybe a tip or two, of wich parts of the packages are possible to remove?
I need support for MySQL, but otherwise just the usual stuff.

Thankful for help!
