Playing with the property tags at http://gtk.php.net/manual/en/tutorials.helloglade.preparation.php and adding
True
manually to my .glade file worked.

Also, I was able to set the top level window with this setting within Glade.

I'm still interested to know how you debug PHP-GTK apps.
