I thought get_widget was ONLY used if I had multiple widgets stored in the same glade file and ONLY wanted to load part of the file.

And I almost also asked before how I can set that up in glade. Since I thought I may have to use the partial load. Oh wow, I see now that just clicking another Toplevel object in glade, adds multiple widgets to the glade file.
The only odd thing there is that the XML glade file names the field "id" like you said, but the glade builder has a General property named "Name:" which sets this field.
