I dont know, what the state of WebKitGtk is, but maybe its an alternative to
mozembed.

Looks that there are already bindings for some langauges

Python bindings http://live.gnome.org/PyWebKitGtk
Vala bindings http://live.gnome.org/Vala
Perl bindings http://search.cpan.org/dist/Gtk2-WebKit/ 

Is it possible to get also a binding for php-gtk2?
