For GNU/Linux users:
To identify the current version of PHP installed and configured on your system, do this.
1). Open your favourite terminal application or login to a system console, and
2). Type in the command: php -v
3). This will return a system output similar to this:
PHP 4.3.11-pl5-gentoo (cli) (built: Jan 30 2006 19:27:21)
