How to upgrade from PHP 5.2.x to 5.3.x?

My server using the following configruation:

Operating system: Radhat Enterprice Version 4.
Apache: Verison 2.0.52 is installed
PHP: Version 5.2.9

Now I want to upgrade to version 5.3.28. I download the package from
php.net, but cannot figure out how to do the upgrade.
