For the record, Jorge's /etc/sysconfig/apache2 needed to contain:

ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe/lib

The right-hand side of the equals sign can't contain variables
e.g. LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib didn't work.

 From experience with Oracle Linux 7, I suspect that prefixing the
variable settings with "export" would also fail on Jorge's OpenSUSE
version. (With Oracle Linux 6 the "export" was required)
