It was only when I came back to this to set up a clean working environment 
that I realized the link I gave was for PSDK SP1. It's probably not very 
helpful on its own :) just I already had the SDK we'd been told about.

You don't need the MDAC, but you'll probably find you need that Service 
Patch.

Still no idea why Pierre's PSDK might contain files that the rest of us 
aren't given. Perhaps his is from a DVD and already contains the service 
patch(es)?
