Session question

Hi,

In php is it possible to use session to protect a directory?
Usually I use session control to protect php files, but this time
application requires different thing. Here are the requirments:

- In the diretory, which will be protected by uid/pw session
control, all the files are .htm or .htm static web pages.
- Use logout but not closing browser to close a session.
