As far as I know, it is possible to run both php3 and php4 with at least apache
as webserver. I have read something about problems with this, but I know of
nothing that could cause them.

PHP4 is mostly backwards compattible to PHP3, but there are some minor issues.
Check http://www.php.net for details. Most of these can probably be easily
fixed, but the vast majority of PHP3 sites will have no problems with PHP4.
