The comment below by "Onur Nizam" has a lot of redundant code. No need to have removeSpaces(), you can call trim() directly instead.
If you're working with forms I suggest searching for good tutorials about filtering and validating data submitted through forms and there are a lot of frameworks and libraries that already take care of this.
