It is not described what the "newline" is. Is this same as PHP_EOL or is it Unix/Win/Mac newline? According to http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4180 the records should be separated by CRLF but testing this function both on Windows (PHP_EOL = 0D0A) and Unix systems (PHP_EOL = 0A) I get Unix newline 0A as the record separator.
