note 102518 added to function.pg-connect

I get the Fatal error: Call to undefined function pg_pconnect() as well. I am running postgresql 8.3 on debian lenny and  PHP Version 5.2.6-1+lenny9. I checked the php.ini file and has
 [PostgresSQL]
; Allow or prevent persistent links.
pgsql.allow_persistent = On

Any thoughts?
