We're looking to find a way to improve PDO, and we believe that having  
a way for the data access providers (be they Open Source, be they  
commercial or closed) to work together with the community will greatly  
help that effort.

When you talk about people being massively against a CLA in the core,  
people were massively against an unknown and scary potential prospect;  
there were no details on that then, and the details now are just a  
proposal.

What we have now is something that we can discuss and use as a basis  
for weighing up the various options; they need not include a CLA, but  
there are some benefits for doing so.  We need to carefully consider  
them.

We are serious about moving forwards on an improved PDO 2, and about  
making the process for contributing to it easier for everyone; PDO 2  
need not be dependent on a CLA, so calling out to boycott improving  
PDO on the basis that there *might* be a CLA is a little bit extreme.

Obviously, Andi and myself believe that a CLA will be beneficial,  
which is why we've structured our initial mail in this way.  The  
question is, what will the CLA cost us, and if that cost is too high  
for the community, what other options do we have to take advantage of  
the offer of help from the vendors?

So let's discuss that; after all, this what the email was: a request  
for comments and a starting point for discussion.

But please, first read through the things we've sent out, and let it  
digest.
There's no rush here, we don't have to be hasty.
