That's where the plan falls down. It would be **symlinked**.

I asked earlier whether there could be a CLA'd repository elsewhere for this 
project and then the code be 'gifted' to php.net, but that didn't get a 
response (yet). Seems we're both thinking the same way, except you pounced 
on PECL and I pounced on Zend.
