I've opened a "stable" branch, basing off master at the point helgi
tagged 1.9.1. Then I cherry-picked all the commits that led to 1.9.2
and 1.9.3 and tagged the releases as stable-1.9.1, stable-1.9.2 and
stable-1.9.3.

I stopped here because it's late and 1.9.4 is a single commit,
> Sync bug fixes from trunk to 1.9.4
which makes it harder than it should be.

I'll do the picks up to 1.9.5 in the next days and verify that the
result is equal to the released 1.9.5 package.

Once that's done, we have a base to start with 1.10.
Adding travis config should be first, then we can review the patches
that came in since the 1.9.1 split and that were not released.
