Bug description:  go-pear.php hangs when installing to remote server

Description:

go-pear.php hangs when installing to Amazon Web Services EC2 
server. I opened the file in Firefox and started the install. It hangs 
at this step: Bootstrapping Console/Getopt.php............(remote) 
ok. It hangs at 21% installation. Reloading the page does not help. 
When I use firebug I see this 404 error. "NetworkError: 404 Not 
Found - https://www.xxx.xxx/gifs/checkerboard.gif".
