On a Mac and looking for advice on where most people would install PEAR.

Hi. I've got a Mac. A nice shiny Mac Book Air. Really liking it. Looking for some advice on where I should install things like PEAR. On Windows I always put it in C:\pear. Nice and simple. I know I can put it anywhere, but assuming I want to keep things sensible, where would you advise I install PEAR? Ta muchly.
