Running PHP CodeSniffer

Hi,

 

I am having trouble getting PHP CodeSniffer to run.  I have installed
version 2.3.3 using the PEAR package installer in cPanel. I have logged in
via SSH using PuTTY and have been trying to run $ phpcs commands to no avail
within the interactive shell (php -a). I am new to this sort of thing so any
advice would be greatly appreciated.
