Pear and Dreamweaver CS3

My site is hosted by iPower who supports Pear.  I've been developing  
php programs the hard way and would like to try out PEAR.  Do I do a  
manual download of PEAR plus a download of PHP?  I ftp my pages to the  
server.  I also develop everything now in Dreamweaver CS3 -- even the  
php (no using the Dreamweaver "automation" whatever that is.
