I have a class to add caching support for most PHP
template classes, and includes locking and partial
caching mechanism. It is general enough so it does not
really care if things are coming from a template
parsing, etc. It uses an adaptor class to handle the
gory details of getting data from the template.

I (and others) have been using it for a long time.
Merging some of the ideas there with other existing
classes and putting that into PEAR would be great. I
had not PEAR-ify that one, but it has extensive
documentation, mainly so people who want to use it can
get working quickly.
