Just to keep you updated on this issue.

vinai and me are working at the moment on the Cache Package.
we made a cleaner class structure and included some of the input we got
from this list, but the TODO list is still long (and growing..)

You can have a look at the files and what we have done till now at
http://www.nomad.ch/php/

there's also anonymous cvs-access for the people, who want the latest
stuff :) see the above page for details (or go directly to
http://cvs.nomad.ch/index.cgi/pear/ for a web-view of the rep)

any feedback/contribution is welcomem and if someone wants to contribute
actively, I can give write access to the cvs :)
