Well, what about the following: I saw some benchmarks PHPLIB-DB vs. PEAR:DB where PHPLIB-DB was twice faster than PEAR:DB. (Rumours said it can also be four times faster) So, my question ist: when porting PHPLIB to PEAR, I think it would be better that the PHPLIB package uses its own DB abstraction class. And, some things to think over: if PEAR:DB is really so slow and PEAR gets installed with every PHP distribution aftet typing "make install", I have in mind the thoughts of people who think "Oh, PEAR is there, nice packages, let's try" and who also think "We build nice applications which should be a bit fast" may think "What? PEAR:DB is so slow? Oh my god, PHP is such a kiddie language, let's use another language where the DB abstraction is much faster". -- Björn Schotte [email protected] http://rent-a-phpwizard.de/ [email protected] Software dev advocate: http://www.advogato.org/person/baerli/
