I have to agree with this. If nothing else, it's allready been stated that PHPlib development will not continue (IIRC), therefore there should be one more release of phplib - a wrapper around PEAR. This would be a drop in replacement that wrapped around PEAR for people that wanted it but didn't want to recode.
