Thanks a lot, you're right, phpize was pointing to 8.3.=20
I changed it to 8.1 and also had to set the lib path to 8.1.=20
After this, the build process completed successfully.

Is phpize (found in i.e. php-dev/php-devel depending on distro) set to =
the 8.1 version or the 8.3 version?
It might have a separate link in update-alternatives.
