hi,

I'm steping in as maintainer as I do need memcache for a portable, dep
free extension to work with memcached servers. While memcached is
nice, libmemcached (what uses memcached) does not fit well in my
hetegenerous environments and its code quality is discutable (while
working well).

My main goals are:

- implement the binary protocl
- fill the gaps with memcached

Then:
- bring API compatibility so an app can use one or the other without
having to modify its code
