I suggest that the template engine be released as soon as possible.
Having in mind the previous discussions/objections to the directions
it has taken, I think its release (and therefore its ability to
function the way the user community thinks it should) will determine
its usufullness but also its direction.

How about distributing it via the usual CVS servers etc. Even alpha
code will be suitable most of the audience on this list.
