We have found the 2 PHP 4.0 RCs to be extremely reliable. We've had no problem at all and have started migrating all our servers to the PHP 4, which has been pretty painless (in fact, it's been anti-painless since the improvements are quite noticable). We've also be developing some sites with PHP 4 in mind, and have not had any trouble with PHP 4 being "beta" or "RC" or anything else. Zeev is quite correct... Some people won't touch beta code.
