Small historic detail.  Linux first releases were made in 1991 and it was
already based on something else that started being developed before.  What
has put Linux on the map, it was not its technical capabilities or
thousands of developers hacking into its code.  It was that a company
believed that they could make money from distribution Linux based free
software.

Among many maniacs there is this belief that Linux is popular because it
Open Source or because it is just free.  Linux is not the only or even the
last Open Source/free Unix flavour.

Some would say that it is not even tecnhically the best, but that's
irrelevant for the matter.  What matters is that Linux got the credibility
that it has now because somebody decided to provide a professional presence
in the market.

PHP still lacks that professional presence.  Some would say that is not
important as long as developers are having fun. That's not enough. You can't
live just on fun.  PHP has to be better known and recognized as a serious
solution, and not because it is Open Source or free for the matter.

While that doesn't happen many of us are embarrassed by many small details
of lack of professional support that prevents us from even talking of PHP
as a solution for many of our job offers to start with.
