hidden variables !<form>

I'm just getting started using PHP and was wondering
if anyone could help with the following problem.

I want to set up a series of pages:

enter->next->next...

that pass several hidden variables through from page to
page w/o using forms or cookies.

GET variables are passed via the URL and are thus not
suitable as they most definitely are visible. Cookies
would work fine, but so many folks out there are paranoid
about them that they would be unreliable.

This is in a Debian Linux environment using PHP v4.0
compiled as an Apache module using the Zend optimizer.
