PHP/Oracle Silent Apache Crash

Dear PHP Community,
Thank you for taking a moment to read our request for assistance. =)
We are struggling to build PHP with the Oracle extension as a dynamic shared
object (DSO/Apache module) under Linux Redhat 6.2. The entire Apache
configuration includes:
openssl-devel-0.9.5-2
openssl-0.9.5-2
apache-mod_ssl-devel-1.3.12.2.6.3-1
apache-mod_ssl-1.3.12.2.6.3-1
mm-1.0.12-1
php-4.0.0 w/Easysoft ODBC Bridge, Oracle/OCI8 and WDDX extensions
All standard Apache modules (e.g., mod_alias, mod_rewrite, etc...)
We have successfully built PHP (with the Oracle extension) and connected and
queried an Oracle database as:
PHP 4.0.0 (with Oracle support) as a binary
PHP 4.0.0 (with Oracle support) statically built into Apache 1.3.12
Silent crash occurs with:
php 3.0.16
php 4.0.0
Since PHP binary is inefficient because it has to load the PHP interpreter
and PHP statically creates 2M httpd consuming too much memory we are at a
loss. Do we need different Oracle libs or is this a real issue?
