Loving the elephpants. Although I am strongly against introducing
external news or even links.. those just look to good to object.

There is a risk for the frontpage becoming stale and people stop
paying attention to it, I think we should include blurb from newly
committed docs, or features in new releases.
Just extracting the first header and paragraph from the headers of the
page, or even do it manually if automating it becomes to much work.
Put f.e. all of
http://no2.php.net/manual/en/migration53.new-features.php into the
lower boxes could be interesting, or not widly-known features, like
http://no2.php.net/manual/en/function.stream-notification-callback.php
or whatever..

The top boxes need to be reserved for 'get involved' and support imo,
and the lower ones for documentation and website tips&tricks.

We do need to highlight events in the users country, like we currently
do, somehow.
Rather then showing the entire event calendar for the world, we should
probably only list the events in the users country, and "5 next
conferences" or something.
How about in a single horizontal scrollable line, similar to the elephpants?

We need to redo the event calendar though, merging the conferences
into the event calendar for example, and make the
http://php.net/conferences use the normal events (makes it heckofalot
simpler to maintain) and make it pretty :]
