To make a possible long answer short.

The namespace support in the SAX parser of libxml2 < 2.6 is weak. It's a 
major PITA to implement it correctly. If anyone wants to fix it, go 
ahead, I don't mind. But IMHO it's a waste of time ;) Furthermore it was 
decided, that PHP 5.0 won't require libxml2 2.6, but 5.1 will most 
presumably.

I'm not sure, which libxml2 version is included in the windows build, 
maybe we could provide 2.6 there, but that's Rob desicion, he's the 
Windows expert for the whole XML-in-PHP stuff ;)
