I compl. agree with that. I assume, that was/is the goal of PECL. But at
the moment, PECL is, as someone quoted it, more or less like siberia. It's
hard enough to get your provider to install some non-standard extensions,
but to get them to install something from PECL, most presumably, hell will
freeze over first ;) So, something has to change there, before we can aim
for the "release-new-extension-updates-independently-from-php-releases".
And it doesn't look like the moving of all (or most) extensions to PECL
will happen soon.. It's some kind of dead-lock, IMHO
